ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGE POINTS

Electric vehicles are the future of motoring, and with all sales of petrol and diesel vehicles will be outlawed by 2030, our transition to electric vehicles is rapidly picking up pace. Charge point technology is developing very quickly and there are some fantastic options on the market. As an OZEV Approved Installer for Electric Vehicle Charge Points, we can advise on the most suitable model for your particular electrical installation, and if eligible, make the grant process easy for you.

Of the three main types of EV charge point (Rapid, Fast and Slow), Fast Chargers are the standard for home and workplace charging. Depending on the vehicle and charge point power rating a full charge can be achieved in just a few hours.

A typical home install involves a site visit to assess the power demands of your electrical installation, discuss the most suitable charge point model, and plan the cable route and install position. We can then provide an accurate quote based on the complexities of the installation. Once this is done we can book an installation date.

To help simplify the process we have an EV Charge Point Standard Installation Package that applies to the majority of installs we do. It is defined as follows:

EV Charge Point Installation Standard Package £450 (Charge point not included)

1. Agreed cable route between the customer and installation engineer.

2. Installation of the charger onto a suitable permanent structure, such as a brick or plaster wall.

3. Up to 15 meters of cable, in length, installed from the customer’s meter/consumer unit to the device location.

4. Cable installed in existing building voids, taking the shortest route defined by the Installer, cable clipped direct to the fabric of the building.

5. If required, routing the cable through up to one drilled hole in the wall up to 50cm thick.

6. Installation of the current transformer (CT) clamp that accompanies the charge point unit.

7. Installation of Mini Circuit Breaker (MCB) or Residual Current Breaker with Over- Current (RCBO), as necessary, to protect the unit and cable run, excluding any Protective Earth and Neutral (PEN) fault protection device or outdoors weatherproof enclosure (invoiced separately if required).

8. Installation of Type 2 Surge Protection Device (SPD) to protect the charging circuit, unless opted-out by the customer.

9. Electrical testing and certification of the new circuit with the charger.
